Manchester United’s Premier League opener against Arsenal took a disastrous turn early on after a huge mistake from goalkeeper Altay Bayindir gifted the Gunners their first goal.
With André Onana ruled out through injury, Bayindir was handed a chance to impress between the sticks. But instead of making a strong statement, the Turkish international endured a nightmare moment just 13 minutes in.
Declan Rice’s corner looked routine, dropping directly towards Bayindir under the crossbar. Rather than clearing it, the goalkeeper misjudged the flight and weakly palmed the ball into danger. Waiting right in front was Riccardo Calafiori, who tapped into an empty net to hand Arsenal a 1-0 lead.
It was the worst possible start for Bayindir, who had been hoping to prove he could be a reliable backup option for Erik ten Hag’s side in Onana’s absence. Instead, his blunder gave Arsenal early control in a high-stakes clash.
It's Arsenal who strike first! 💥
